For the first time ever, India is set to host one of the biggest international winter sports events — the Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy 2025. The much-awaited championship will take place from 20th to 23rd August 2025 at the Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur, Dehradun.

This prestigious tournament marks a historic moment for the country, as India steps onto the global stage of winter sports, showcasing its growing potential in ice-based athletics. The event will bring together top athletes from across Asia, competing in the thrilling discipline of short track speed skating — a sport that combines lightning-fast speed, skill, and strategy on ice.

More than 11 Asian nations will take part in this historic competition, according to ISAI President Amitabh Sharma. China, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Chinese Taipei are among them. The 5000-meter relay and the 222-meter sprint are just two of the nine events in which athletes will demonstrate their abilities.

Experts believe this event could act as a catalyst for the development of winter sports infrastructure in India. It may encourage greater investments in ice rinks, training facilities, and youth development programs, paving the way for Indian representation at higher international competitions, including the Winter Olympics.

The Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy 2025 is not just about competition, it is also about putting India on the global map of winter sports.
