Best known for its colonial charm and rustic beauty, Landour perched atop Mussoorie remains one of the most peaceful and delightful getaway spots. Barely an hour from Dehradun, this quaint cantonment town is located 35 kms from the city.

Landour, with all its lush greenery and quiet, sets the tone by being surrounded by dense oak and pine forests. Serene and surreal, the haven also happens to be the place where the legendary writer Ruskin Bond lives.

Hidden in the Hills: Landour

The retreat here is enhanced by a couple spots that can be covered via a short trek through the Landour Loop and Lal Tibba (from where one can view the snow-capped Himalayas). A halt by Char Dukan comes first —four shops standing tall since the 19th century— where you can indulge in delicious pancakes and have piping hot chai. Although, you'd almost always find a full house here, as the little shops are frequently thronged by foodies eager to sample the offerings.

While on the leisurely walk amidst the most panoramic and verdant forest string, don't forget to stop by the Landour Bakehouse, glimmering in its vintage ambiance and teeming with freshly baked treats.

The winding roads will also lead those seeking a touch of spirituality or a dash of history to the Kellogg Memorial Church, known to emanate tranquility enhanced by Gothic architecture.

All in all, this entire experience, that can easily be covered in a day, has the charming power to take you away from the hustle and bustle of city life and how!
