Dehradun has taken an important step towards reducing plastic waste with the launch of its first automatic plastic bottle crusher machine. The machine was inaugurated outside the Dehradun Municipal Corporation office by Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal.
The crusher will soon be installed at busy public places such as tourist spots, parks, railway stations, bus stands, educational institutions, and government buildings. It helps crush single-use plastic bottles immediately, making recycling easier and encouraging people to dispose of plastic responsibly.
The crushed plastic will be reused to make chairs, tables, flower pots, and other useful items for public spaces. Operated under a PPP model by a private agency, this initiative supports the vision of a plastic-free Dehradun and Uttarakhand.
