Good news for travellers in Dehradun! Air connectivity between Dehradun and Pithoragarh is set to become more frequent from September 1, 2026, with the 42-seater flight operating on more days of the week.
The service, operated by Alliance Air, connects Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun with Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh. The flight has already significantly reduced travel time between the two cities to around one hour, compared with the long road journey of nearly 495 km.
At present, the flight operates on select days. From September 1, the Dehradun-Pithoragarh service will operate five days a week, according to airport management. The service is expected to operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, while Wednesday will follow a revised route and schedule.
On Wednesday, the aircraft will fly from Delhi to Dehradun, then Pithoragarh, before returning via Dehradun to Delhi. The official timings for the revised schedule are yet to be announced.
For Dehradun residents, the increased frequency means more flexibility when planning trips to Pithoragarh and the Kumaon region, whether for work, family visits or tourism. It could also make bookings easier by providing more travel options during the week.
The Dehradun-Pithoragarh flight is part of the wider effort to improve air connectivity in Uttarakhand’s hilly and remote regions. The route was launched under the Centre’s UDAN scheme, which aims to make air travel more accessible in tier-2, tier-3 and difficult-to-reach regions.
Beyond convenience for passengers, better connectivity can support tourism, trade and local businesses, while making strategically important border areas more accessible.
The state is also working to strengthen aviation infrastructure. Naini Saini Airport is being upgraded at a cost of ₹450 crore, while Uttarakhand has expanded its network of heliports and helipads in recent years.
For Dehradun, the increased frequency on the Pithoragarh route is therefore more than just another flight option. It is part of a larger push to make travel across Uttarakhand faster, more accessible and better connected.
