Dehradun is set to become a major hub for international ice skating as the Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy 2026 comes to the city. The championship is scheduled to bring together more than 270 athletes from 14 countries at the Himadri Ice Rink in the Maharana Pratap Sports Complex.
The competition will feature leading short-track speed skaters from across Asia, allowing Indian athletes to compete against international talent on home ice.
The event also puts the spotlight on Dehradun's growing winter-sports infrastructure. The Himadri Ice Rink has emerged as an important venue for national and international skating events since its renovation and reopening. It hosted the Asian Open Trophy in 2025 as well, when more than 200 athletes from Asian countries competed in the inaugural edition held in India.
The International Skating Union's 2026–27 competition calendar also lists Dehradun as the host city for the Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy, underlining the city's growing presence on the international skating circuit.
For Dehradun, the championship is more than a sporting event. It strengthens the city's position as an emerging destination for winter sports and international sporting competitions, while giving local athletes and sports enthusiasts a chance to experience elite-level skating closer to home.
