Good news for travellers in Dehradun—the much-awaited Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is likely to open in April 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the expressway during his visit to Uttarakhand.

Once open, the expressway will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to just around 2.5 hours, making journeys faster and more comfortable. The project has been built at a cost of ₹11,970 crore and is expected to be a major boost for travel, tourism and development in the region.

Officials are currently waiting for confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the exact date. The inauguration may take place in early April, around Baisakhi (April 13), or later in the month when the Kedarnath temple opens.

The expressway is around 211 km long and connects Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A part of it in Uttarakhand includes an elevated road, which will help ease traffic and improve connectivity.

Once operational, this expressway is expected to make travel smoother for daily commuters as well as tourists visiting Dehradun and nearby hill destinations.
