Residents of Dehradun have a major travel update to cheer about. The long-awaited Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Expressway has officially begun its trial run, bringing the project another step closer to opening for the public. Fresh visuals from Delhi show vehicles entering the corridor after barricades were removed near Geeta Colony, signaling the start of testing on the newly built route.
Once fully operational, this 210 km high-speed expressway, stretching from Akshardham in Delhi to Dehradun, is expected to cut the current 6 to 6.5-hour journey to just 2–2.5 hours. For daily commuters, tourists, and frequent travellers between Delhi, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur and Dehradun, this will be one of the biggest infrastructure upgrades in North India.
The trial run marks a significant milestone and indicates that the expressway is close to completion. Faster connectivity is set to boost tourism in Uttarakhand, ease weekend travel, and improve economic movement between Delhi NCR and the state’s capital city.
As the final checks continue, Dehradun residents can look forward to a smoother, safer and much quicker road to the national capital in the coming weeks.
