After remaining closed for nearly four months, the iconic Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Dehradun has finally reopened for tourists from 25th May. However, visitors planning a trip to one of Uttarakhand’s most popular heritage attractions will now have to pay significantly higher entry and museum fees.
The FRI administration has officially announced revised ticket prices and stricter security measures for tourists entering the campus. The new rates came into effect from May 25, 2026.
Known for its stunning colonial architecture, lush green campus, museums, and Bollywood movie shoots, the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun attracts thousands of visitors every year. The institute was closed at the end of January for repair work and enhanced security arrangements.
FRI Dehradun New Entry Fees 2026:
Under the revised pricing system, entry charges for Indian and foreign tourists have increased sharply.
Indian Nationals: ₹100 per person
Foreign Nationals: ₹1,000 per person
Earlier, the campus entry fee was around ₹20 for Indian visitors and ₹150 for foreign tourists.
Visitors exploring the famous museums inside the institute will also have to pay updated charges.
FRI Museum Entry Fee Structure:
Adult Entry (Indian Nationals): ₹150 per person
Adult Entry (Foreign Nationals): ₹1,500 per person
School Groups / Children: ₹30 per child
College Groups / Students: ₹50 per student
Along with increased prices, the institute has implemented tighter security protocols for visitors. According to the administration, any person entering the campus without permission will now face a fine of ₹1,000 per person.
The new rules are being introduced to maintain better discipline, protect the heritage campus, and ensure visitor safety.
Despite the hike in ticket prices, the Forest Research Institute continues to be one of the most visited tourist places in Dehradun. Its massive Greco-Roman architecture, green landscapes, museums, and peaceful atmosphere make it a favorite destination for tourists, students, photographers, and nature lovers.
The campus has also been featured in several Bollywood films, adding to its popularity among travelers visiting Uttarakhand.
