As climate change and water scarcity become growing concerns, Dehradun is playing a key role in preparing the next generation of conservation experts. The ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC) has launched a four-week Skill Development Training Programme on Soil and Water Conservation for Watershed Management, running from July 1 to July 28, 2026.

The programme has brought together 32 B.Tech students from leading agricultural engineering colleges across Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, giving them hands-on exposure to modern techniques in soil conservation, rainwater harvesting, watershed planning, erosion control and geospatial technologies.

Designed to bridge classroom learning with practical field experience, the training includes lectures, laboratory sessions and field visits that focus on sustainable natural resource management.

With Dehradun being home to one of India's premier research institutes in soil and water conservation, initiatives like these not only strengthen the city's reputation as a hub for agricultural research but also contribute to building a skilled workforce ready to tackle future environmental challenges.
