The proposal for the commission was first announced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami during an international Sanskrit conference in Haridwar in December 2025. The plan gained momentum after a high-level meeting at the state secretariat on July 15, 2026, chaired by Sanskrit Education Secretary Deepak Kumar.
The government aims to make Sanskrit more relevant in the modern era by promoting its use through artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology. Suggestions received from experts will help define the commission's structure, responsibilities, and long-term roadmap.
