The Dehradun Zoo has brought in two young adult tigers and it calls for a visit to the zoological park once again. While the zoo has been famous for the large birds, Ostrich and Emu, the Himalayan Eagle and leopards, tigers are a brand-new highlight, adding further to the experience.
Named Bhola and Vikram, the two big cats were transferred to the zoo from the wild last month. Both of these majestic creatures weigh over 200 kgs, making them an impressive addition to the zoo’s roster of wildlife.
"The display of tigers at Doon Zoo is important because Uttarakhand has a significant presence of tigers. Real sighting of tigers will evoke curiosity among children and youth, which will enable their understanding about co-existence with big cats rather than seeing them as a threat."The state forest minister had shared with media
However, since the wild animals have not been used to an enclosed space, they've had a difficult time adjusting and have been slightly aggressive. For instance, scratching tree barks in a demonstration to mark their territories. The zoo authorities, though, are taking it all in stride, and attempting to transform the enclosure to mimic their natural habitat - the forest.
"Establishing territory is inherent to a tiger’s nature. Since being released into the enclosure, both tigers have been marking their territory," SDO, Forest Department, Sunil Baluni said.
The introduction of Bhola and Vikram is part of the zoo’s efforts to promote awareness about tiger conservation and provide visitors with a chance to witness the grandeur of these apex predators up close, making it even more important for you to plan your next family visit here!
