In a proud moment for Uttarakhand and India’s agri-trade, Dehradun’s famous apples and the GI-tagged Indi Lime have officially made their way to the global market, with the first-ever shipment sent to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This marks a new milestone in India’s mission to showcase its regional produce to the world.
The move comes as part of India’s growing push to promote regional specialties and boost farmers’ income by taking local produce global. While Kashmiri apples have long been a household name, Dehradun’s apples—known for their crisp sweetness, freshness, and distinct mountain flavor—are finally stepping into the international spotlight.
Alongside them, the Indi Lime, which recently earned its Geographical Indication (GI) tag, adds a refreshing twist to this export milestone. Cultivated in the fertile soils of India, this variety is loved for its tangy taste, juiciness, and high Vitamin C content—making it a hit in global markets where demand for tropical fruits is rising.
Farmers from Dehradun and other producing regions now get direct exposure to international buyers. With Indi Lime joining the list, India is showcasing its diverse agricultural identity abroad.
This first export consignment isn’t just a trade achievement—it’s a recognition of India’s local treasures, nurtured by farmers and celebrated by communities. For Dehradun residents, it’s a proud moment to see their homegrown apples gain global love.
