Dehradun may soon see a major upgrade in its road infrastructure as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans a high-speed elevated corridor along the Rispana and Bindal rivers. Once completed, the project is expected to cut travel time across the city from around 30 minutes to just 10 minutes, offering much-needed relief from daily traffic congestion.
The proposed corridor will run along the riverbanks, allowing traffic to bypass busy city roads. Designed for smoother and faster movement, the elevated road aims to reduce bottlenecks while improving connectivity between key areas of Dehradun. The project also aligns with ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway.
While the plan promises faster commutes and improved traffic flow, it has also raised concerns among residents and environmental groups regarding river ecology, land acquisition, and rehabilitation. Authorities have stated that surveys and planning are ongoing, and further approvals are awaited before construction begins.
If implemented carefully, the elevated corridor could become one of Dehradun’s most important transport projects in recent years.
