All set to open its gates for the public for the first time, Dehradun's historic Rashtrapati Ashiana is a 132-acre presidential retreat on Rajpur Road.

Following President Droupadi Murmu’s directive of 2024 to make the 186-year-old estate accessible to the public, officials have accelerated preparations, ensuring visitor facilities from June 20.

How Rashtrapati Ashiana is transforming into an iconic nature park

A recent review meeting saw various departments take decisions on key elements like electricity, water supply, traffic, parking and security arrangements. The park is slated to offer top-of-the-class amenities, sustainable infrastructure and immersive public experiences.

"It will be dedicated to the people of Uttarakhand, fostering public engagement while promoting green initiatives, health, and cultural activities,"

For beautification and wellness, the offerings here will include a cycling track, sports courts, jogging tracks, walking trails, a forest nature path and water elements, to spruce up the place into an iconic nature park.

In addition to the above, a 21-acre section is expected house a facilitation center, amphitheater, art gallery, cafeteria and even a souvenir store, with horse-riding facilities, adding all the more charm to the location.

Whether the heritage nature park is able to mould into all that is promised or not, it is on the path of becoming a fine tourist and cultural landmark in Dehradun, further offering glimpses into India’s presidential and military heritage!
