Dehradun is all set to take a giant leap in public transport with the proposed introduction of high-tech, Switzerland-like bi-articulated electric buses. Designed to combine comfort, capacity, and sustainability, these futuristic buses are expected to redefine the way the city travels.

The project aims to provide a cost-effective alternative to metro rail systems, which require massive infrastructure investments. Unlike a metro, these buses can operate on existing roads with minor upgrades, making them significantly cheaper to implement. At the same time, being fully electric, they will help curb air pollution in the valley, supporting Uttarakhand’s push for clean mobility.

It takes only a few minutes to fully charge thanks to flash charging technology. In the city, these buses—which are European-style buses in India—will be observed travelling at 30 to 40 km/h. Environmental issues are totally eliminated with this bus. Since it won't need fuel or petrol, the air in the city will be entirely pure. It's important to note that these are already in use in various British cities, Switzerland, France, and Brisbane, Australia.

The plan includes connecting high-density areas, educational institutions, ISBT, and Rajpur Road, covering zones where metro construction would have been costly and disruptive.

With this step, Dehradun joins global cities in adopting next-gen, sustainable public transport. The project promises affordability for commuters, environmental benefits for the city, and a modern image for Uttarakhand’s capital.
