The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has started preparations for the Kanwar Yatra and for the first time, it will be monitored from the sky with the help of drones.

The drones are expected to send minute-to-minute information about where the crowd is gathering to the control room. This will also help to monitor crowded places, roads, ghats and bridges of Uttarakhand. The visuals from these drones will be monitored from the state and district emergency operation centers.

Last week on Saturday, Anand Swaroop, Additional Chief Executive Officer of Uttarakhand State disaster Management Authority revealed that the drone monitoring will be useful in effectively dealing and diverting any possible disasters and contingencies during the Yatra.

A sachet app will be able to get weather related information to all the people coming for the yatra. In addition, they will also be given toll free numbers in case of emergency and to seek help.

Special arrangements will be made for the safety of pilgrims from wild animals during the Kanwar Yatra. Sensitive areas will be market by the forest department and tight security arrangements will be made.

The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva devotees, known as Kanwariyas to Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotro in Uttarakhand. The yatra is undertaken to seek blessings of Lord Shiva.
