Uttarakhand’s weather is poised to take yet another delightful turn, with the higher regions gearing up for a spell of snowfall. While New Year's festivities drew throngs of people to Mussoorie, Chakrata and similar hill stations, with tourists eagerly hoping for snow, this time, the Meteorological Center in Dehradun has drawn a promising picture for the winter enthusiasts.
It has been predicted that weather across the state will remain dry until January 4. However, from January 5 onward, a significant shift is expected, bringing snowfall to areas above 2,500 meters. Districts like Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh are likely to witness snow.
With the change in weather, temperatures are slated to drop in the capital city too. While Dehradun has been experiencing dry weather since January 1, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovering over a concerning 200, things are expected to shift for the better.
Forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) shows a gradual drop in maximum temperatures starting January 4, with cooler days expected around January 5-6 before temperatures regain stability.
By January 5 and 6, maximum temperatures are expected to plummet from 22-23°C to 16°C, accompanied by a partly cloudy sky and a possibility of rain or thunderstorms. The minimum temperatures are also forecasted to hover between 8°C-11°C over the week. From January 7 onward, a slight rise is anticipated, with the maximum temperature stabilising around 20°C.
