In a good news, a part of Dehradun-Delhi expressway is now open for public. Vehicles are now gliding over the six-lane stretch from Asharodi to Daat Kali temple. The 3.5-km stretch, once a major bottleneck, is now making travel into the state capital smoother.
The road extends the 12-km elevated wildlife corridor passing through Rajaji National Park and the Shivalik Reserve. And the Daat Kali tunnel is slated to significantly ease congestion, in turn, cutting down travel time.
"The six-lane road has been built over the previous two-way lane, since it was impractical to close the route, as it would completely halt traffic to and from Dehradun."informed Project director of NHAI, Pankaj Mourya.
The ambitious 213-km Delhi-Dehradun expressway, built at a cost of ₹12,000 crore, is being developed in multiple phases, with full completion expected by the end of 2025. Once fully operational, it will slash the current travel time between the two cities from six hours to just two and a half hours.
