In a noble initiative led by DM Savin Bansal, Dehradun has rolled out the Nanda Sunanda Yojana, a scheme designed to uplift orphaned and underprivileged girls who have cleared their 12th grade.
The programme aims at ensuring free admissions for higher education and skill development to tackle financial barriers that often lie in the way of these bright students.
As part of the initiative, a multidisciplinary committee has also been set up to select deserving candidates in a fair manner. The process will involve active community engagement through Janta Darbar and multipurpose camps.
The scheme, officially launched at Rishiparna Auditorium recently, helped distribute financial aid amounting to ₹2,44,731 among eight students. The financial assistance will be sent directly to the educational institutions where the students have secured admission.
