Auli to Host National Winter Games, Skiing Carnival from Feb 13

To boost winter tourism in Uttarakhand, the Auli Skiing Winter Carnival and National Winter Games Championship 2026 will be held from February 13 to 16 in Auli, Chamoli district.

Organised by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) with technical and medical support from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the four-day event will feature national-level competitions in Alpine skiing, snowboarding and ski mountaineering (Skimo).

The opening day will include registration, an inaugural ceremony, cultural programmes and ski demonstrations. Competitions in giant slalom and slalom (men and women), snowboard events and ski mountaineering races will be held over the next two days. The event will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony on February 16.

Tourism secretary Dheeraj Singh Garbyal said the championship aims to strengthen winter tourism, promote adventure sports and generate employment opportunities in the state.

Located at an altitude of 2,500 to 3,050 metres, Auli is one of India’s leading skiing destinations known for its natural slopes and favourable winter conditions.
