Dehradun has added a unique green space to its growing list of environmental initiatives with the development of a new 3-B Garden, a specially designed biodiversity park created for bees, butterflies and birds.
Developed within the Chief Minister's Residence and Circuit House complex, the garden has been designed to support pollinators and local wildlife by creating a thriving natural habitat filled with nectar-rich flowers, fruit-bearing trees and native plant species.
Unlike conventional landscaped parks, the 3-B Garden focuses on ecological balance. The use of pesticides and harmful chemicals is being restricted to ensure a healthy environment for pollinating insects and birds, which play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity.
The garden features a wide variety of species including Jamun, Mulberry, Kadamba, Neem, Guava, Bamboo, Hibiscus, Tulsi, Lavender, Sunflower, Rosemary, Mint, Milkweed and Passion Flower. These plants have been selected specifically for their ability to attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators.
Adding to its ecological significance, the site also includes Himalayan species such as Banj (Oak), Buransh (Rhododendron) and Bay Leaf, helping preserve Uttarakhand's native flora while enhancing the natural beauty of the campus.
Environmental experts believe initiatives like the 3-B Garden can play an important role in promoting biodiversity conservation, supporting beekeeping activities and creating greater public awareness about sustainable living.
