Good news for Dehradun commuters: the Uttar Pradesh government has approved ₹3,000 crore to widen the Delhi–Dehradun National Highway from four to six lanes, a move aimed at easing heavy weekend traffic between Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and the hills.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is leading the expansion. The first phase will cover the Partapur (Meerut) to Rampur Tiraha (Muzaffarnagar) stretch — about 80 km — and includes a detailed project report (DPR) expected by March 2026, after a drone-based survey to map the terrain.
Planners are also working on around 20 new underpasses and service roads on both sides to eliminate traffic choke points, while an elevated 1.5 km section is proposed at Mansoorpur.
Once complete, this six-lane expressway will significantly improve regional connectivity toward Dehradun and reduce the severe congestion that often builds up on the weekend corridor. According to NHAI officials, broader flyovers and roadway upgrades are planned, along with some land acquisition for this infrastructure boost.
Amid these developments, commuters and local communities in Dehradun can look forward to smoother, faster access to and from the National Capital Region — a big step for both economic growth and tourism in Uttarakhand.
