Haridwar is set to get a major traffic boost before Ardh Kumbh 2027, as two key road projects by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) are in their final stages.
The first project is a 51-km six-lane access-controlled highway that will directly connect Haridwar to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. Around 92% of the work has already been completed, with nearly 46 km of the road ready.
The second project is the 15-km Haridwar Bypass, which is about 77% complete. Once opened, it is expected to reduce congestion in busy areas such as Har Ki Pauri, Chandi Chowk and Shankaracharya Chowk.
For people travelling from Dehradun, Delhi, Meerut, Saharanpur and western Uttar Pradesh, these projects are expected to make journeys faster and smoother by diverting through traffic away from Haridwar's crowded city roads.
NHAI is also developing flyovers, underpasses, service roads and an advanced traffic management system to ensure better traffic flow before the Ardh Kumbh in 2027.
