The much-awaited inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is likely to take place on April 14, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to lead the event. While final confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office is still pending, preparations by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Uttarakhand government are already in full swing.
According to current plans, the Prime Minister’s aircraft will land at Ganeshpur, located near the Uttarakhand–Uttar Pradesh border. From there, he is expected to inaugurate the expressway and travel by road to Dehradun.
A major public gathering is being planned at Mahindra Ground in Garhi Cantt, where the Prime Minister will address the public. Senior leaders, including representatives from Uttar Pradesh, are also expected to be present, although final details of additional events are yet to be confirmed.
This greenfield expressway project, spanning approximately 210 kilometers, connects Delhi to Dehradun via Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur. Built at an estimated cost of ₹12,000–13,000 crore, the expressway is set to significantly improve connectivity between the two regions.
One of the most notable features of the project is a 12-kilometer elevated wildlife corridor, considered the longest in Asia. This design allows vehicles to pass above while ensuring safe movement of wildlife below, marking a major step toward sustainable infrastructure development.
Once operational, the expressway will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from around six hours to just 2.5 hours. This is expected to boost tourism, trade, and overall economic growth in Uttarakhand and nearby regions.
Residents of Dehradun can expect heightened security, traffic arrangements, and administrative activity in the days leading up to the Prime Minister’s visit.
