In a moment of immense pride for Dehradun, Sunfox Technologies, a homegrown med-tech startup, was showcased at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) as one of India’s top five breakthrough healthcare innovations. The event was graced by none other than Bill Gates, who personally acknowledged the company’s impact on global health.
"At ICMR, I saw how India’s homegrown innovations are saving lives. Fetal monitoring systems are helping mothers and newborns, real-time TB detection is catching cases sooner, and streamlined delivery systems are bringing medicine to remote communities faster. These breakthroughs aren’t just changing health outcomes in India—they have the power to change the world."
Bill Gates acknowleged
At the heart of this recognition is Spandan, a portable ECG device revolutionising cardiac care bit by bit. Developed to be as simple to use as a thermometer, Spandan boasts of detecting over 40 heart abnormalities with 99.7% accuracy.
In a one-on-one conversation with Gates, the device’s role in reducing cardiac mortality worldwide was applauded, and its potential to save millions of lives recognised.
“Being at ICMR HQ among India’s most promising healthcare innovations was an incredible honour. Hearing Bill Gates recognise Sunfox Technologies’s potential to change the world was both humbling and energising. It reinforced our mission to make high-quality cardiac monitoring accessible to millions."
Rajat Jain, founder of Sunfox Technologies
However, the accolades that the Dehradun youth garnered today have had a long and deeply personal journey. For Rajat, the 29-year-old founder of Sunfox Technologies, lost a close friend to an undiagnosed heart condition back in 2016. This, in turn, made him poignantly aware of the lack of accessible cardiac monitoring, especially in remote regions. In Uttarakhand’s hilly terrain, where patients often travel long distances for the bare minimum medical care, timely diagnosis can mean the difference between life and death.
Determined to find solutions, Rajat and his team of engineers designed Spandan — the affordable, matchbox-sized device that could be used without a doctor!
From being featured on Shark Tank India to receiving praise from the Prime Minister of India, Sunfox Technologies is on a mission to serve the healthcare arena worldwide.
