The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage undertaken by devotees of Lord Shiva every year. These devotees are called the Kanvarias and they fetch holy water from the Ganges River in Haridwar. Dehradun is an important route to the destination and every year, major preparations are made in the city to welcome the devotees and ensure that the pilgrimage is smooth for them.
Kanwar Yatra in Dehradun this year is all set to begin from July 11 and will go on till July 23. Here are all the guidelines that have been issued ahead of Kanwar Yatra in Dehradun by the Uttarakhand government:
1. Owners of hotels, dhabas, and eateries on carts along the pilgrimage route will have to display a clean copy of their licence or registration certificate at a prominent place in their establishment so that consumers can see it easily.
2. Food Safety Display Board should be installed in hotels, eateries, restaurants and dhabas at a clearly visible place. Failure to do so will attract a fine of up to Rs. 2 lakhs.
3. During the yatra, liquor and meat shops on the yatra routes will remain closed to avoid disputes. Strict actions will be taken in case of failure to comply.
4. DJ operators have been advised to play songs at a normal volume and avoid loud music.
5. Instructions to health department for better health facilities.
6. Water department will make arrangements for drinking water supply.
7. Municipal bodies are instructed to make arrangement for regular cleanliness, provide parking and toilet facilities.
8. Police will be responsible for keeping an eye on hooligans and security arrangements.
Apart from this, Uttarakhand CM Dhami has also issued directives for traffic diversions. Delhi-Dehradun highway (NH-58) will be closed for regular traffic. Vehicles will be diverted to alternate routes along with restrictions on the Delhi-Dehradun expressway.
While light vehicles may be allowed on the expressway, dedicated lanes will be created for the Kanvarias.
