If you’re planning to step out in Dehradun on April 14, 2026, you may want to check your route twice. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit the city to inaugurate the Dehradun-Delhi Expressway, Uttarakhand police have issued a detailed traffic advisory to manage movement and ensure security.
Several key routes will be closed or diverted, and traffic across the city will be closely regulated throughout the day. Read on to know more.
One of the most important updates is the complete closure of the Roorkee–Bhagwanpur route, along with restrictions on heavy vehicles. Commuters coming from nearby cities will also need to adjust their travel plans and follow alternate routes.

Travelling from Roorkee or Delhi to Dehradun?
Avoid Saharanpur–Chhutmalpur–Daatkali tunnel route during restricted hours
Take alternate route via:
Bhagwanpur → Jhabreda → Haridwar
Follow additional routes suggested by traffic police
Inside the city, traffic movement will also be affected when the Prime Minister’s convoy passes through key roads. Routes like the Mohand–Daatkali stretch and other major connecting roads will see temporary diversions and restrictions.
To manage this smoothly, the city has been divided into 13 traffic zones, with police deployment and route control in each zone to avoid congestion and ensure safety. Residents and daily commuters are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during peak movement hours of the convoy.
If travel is essential, plan your journey in advance and follow only the official diversion routes suggested by the administration. Keeping track of real-time updates from Dehradun Police or local authorities can also help you avoid delays and confusion.
In short, expect heavy traffic restrictions, plan ahead, and use alternate routes wherever possible. A little preparation can save you a lot of time on the road during this high-security visit.
