Recently, Dehradun witnessed a grand celebration as the official mascot, logo, jersey, torch, anthem, and tagline ('Sankalp Se Shikhar Tak') of the 38th National Games were unveiled in a ceremony. The mascot 'Mauli' has been inspired by the state bird, the Himalayan Monal.
Held at the city's Maharana Pratap Sports College in Raipur, the event also revealed that two traditional sports, namely Mallakhamb, Kalarippayattu and Yoga, have officially been declared as part of the national games.
"The 38th National Games in Uttarakhand promise to be a landmark event in promoting both traditional and modern sports in India. The inclusion of demonstration sports like kalarippayattu, yogasana, mallakhambh and rafting reflects our commitment to honouring India's rich heritage while encouraging new opportunities for athletes."
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha said in
The chief minister, who attended the affair, explained that the vibrant logo depicted the diversity of Uttarakhand, whereas the torch, which symbolises collective effort and unity, will be carried across the state in order to promote the spirit of sports.
In the build-up to the games, a call for 7,000 volunteers was also issued on Friday, encouraging citizens to actively participate and contribute to the successful organisation.
Scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand between January 28 to February 24, 2025, the forthcoming games will host competitions across 32 disciplines. With over 10,000 participants, including athletes, officials, and coaches, representing states and institutional teams like the Services, the event will feature medal contests in 38 sports — a grand celebration of athleticism, teamwork and the nation’s sporting heritage.
