
The 38th National Games kicked off in Uttarakhand, in all glory, on January 28, 2025, with the triathlon events commencing two days earlier.
The event has brought together athletes from 28 states, eight Union Territories and the Services Sports Control Board, in turn, featuring 32 core sports and four demonstration events.
In the men's individual triathlon, Sarungbam Athouba Meitei clinched the first gold medal for Manipur. On the women's side, Maharashtra's Dolly Devidas Patil secured the individual triathlon crown. Additionally, the Maharashtra team, comprising Parth Sachin Miraje, Kaushik Vinay Malandkar, Mansi Vinod Mohi and Dolly Devidas Patil, triumphed in the mixed relay event.
Manipur's Bindyarani Devi also stole the show in the women’s 55kg weightlifting category, not only winning gold but also setting a new national record in the snatch segment. In the same men's cateogry, Vijay from Services clinched the gold with a total lift of 248 kg, surpassing national record holder Mukund Aher of Maharashtra. In women's 49-kg category, Gyaneshwari Yadav of Chhattisgarh secured the gold with a personal best total of 191 kg while in the 45-kg one, Sufna Jasmin of Kerala emerged victorious by lifting a total of 159 kg.
Rahi Sarnobat has triumphed in the women's 25m pistol shooting event, while in the men's rapid fire pistol round, Anish Bhanwala clinched the gold medal with a final score of 31 hits.
In swimming, ace swimmer Sajan Prakash clinched his first gold medal, while Paris 2024 Olympian Dhinidhi Desinghu made waves by securing three gold medals and setting a national record in the women's 200m freestyle event.
The winners in the Changquan Wushu events were T Saya Chanu, who clinched the gold in the women's Changquan event with remarkable precision and Achom Tapas, who secured gold in the Wushu Taolu Daoshu event.
As of now, Manipur is dominating the medal tally with nine golds, seven silvers and three bronze medals — totalling 19 medals. At least 16 teams have secured a gold, but the race for the Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy, awarded to the overall champions, remains wide open.
