Now, pilgrims can bypass the arduous 6-km trek from Kharsali to reach Yamunotri by a direct chopper. This development comes as Uttarakhand govt introduces a new helipad in the Garud Ganga region, aiding travellers to arrive seamlessly at the said location.
Built by Bridge, Ropeway, Tunnel and other Infrastructure Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (BRIDCUL) at a height of 10,804 feet with a budget of ₹60 lakh, this initiative aims at offering a more inclusive pilgrimage experience to the revered shrine.
The helipad, which aims at catering to both commercial and emergency needs, will be operational only after thorough inspection by a civil aviation unit.
Yamunotri, a popular pilgrim site, is the first stop on the Char Dham Yatra, drawing thousands of devotees every year. Nestled amid the Garhwal Himalayas, its steep trek often poses challenges to visitors, thus, raising safety concerns. The journey from Yamnotri continues to Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath - making a complete spiritual experience.
