The much-anticipated Adi Kailash Yatra is all set to commence on May 14, with 13 batches of pilgrims embarking on this revered journey.
Nestled at 5,945 meters in Dharchula, Pithoragarh, Adi Kailash (also known as "Chota Kailash") happens to be one of the most famous of the Panch Kailash routes. As legend goes, it is a beloved abode of Lord Shiva.
In the previous year, Adi Kailash and Om Parvat witnessed over 30,000 pilgrims. The yatra will commence from two locations — Haldwani and Dharchula. The schedule comprises eight batches that will begin from Haldwani and complete the journey in eight days, while five batches from Dharchula will conclude the trip in five days. The first batch is all set depart from Haldwani on May 14 and from Dharchula on May 15, along with the final Haldwani batch scheduled for June 12. The pilgrimage fee stands at Rs 50,000 from Haldwani and Rs 40,000 from Dharchula.
The Adi Kailash Yatra route passes through Darma Valley, crosses Sin La Pass into Kuthi Yankti Valley and connects to the Kailash-Manasarovar pilgrimage path along the Sharda River. Travellers can reach Adi Kailash via Gunji, where the road splits (one route leading to Kailash-Manasarovar and the other to Adi Kailash). Thanks to road developments in 2020, the trek to Adi Kailash now takes just two hours from Gunji.
